Technical Information

The PublicRoot DNS Operations Working Group (DNSops WG) develops and publishes guidelines concerning the operation and administration of DNS software servers and zone files. These guidelines provide operators and administrators with technical information relating to the implementation of the DNS protocol, zones, resolvers, root and TLD name servers.

Publications:

Inclusive Name Space TLD Compilation: This file is a compilation of all known TLDs in all root zones available on the Public Internet.

Public Root Zone File: The PublicRoot Consortium publishes an RFC 2826 complient inclusive name space zone file.

Registry Operations: A reference guide for Top-Level Domain (TLD) Operators on recommended registry operational procedures for TLDs. Authors: Baptista J. and Thornton B., 14 January 2005.

Root Name Server Operational Requirements: Root domain name servers are a crucial part of Internet technology and infrastructure. The PublicRoot Consortium in an effort to standardize the operations of root name servers has published official guidelines to operators. Author: Baptista J., 17 January 2005.

Root Server IDentification Tags: This is a file of known root server systems and contains the assignment of IDentification Tags by the PublicRoot Consortium to root server systems on the Internet.

Software

IASON: Root Server Defense System designed to analyze data streams and recognize attacks. IASON works in conjunction with a network firewall and IDS (Intrusion Detection System) software to block attacks while allowing legitimate requests to reach the root name server.
