September 30, 2006: French researcher and consultant, Louis Pouzin,
thinks it's time to liberate the root. Pouzin internationally known as
the inventor of Datagram networking, developed the methods used today to
transmit
packets in a network. His work enabled the connectionless
communication tools that made the Internet what it is today.
In a meeting earlier this month with Peter Dambier of the
Cesidian Root,
Pouzin discussed his ideas on the expansion of the domain name system
(DNS) with specific emphasis on establishing multilingual Top-Level
Domains (TLDs). It was at this meeting that Pouzin, known for his bold
statements and lively sense of humor, proposed a new means to identify
root systems and the "Racine Libre" or "Liberated Root" was born.
Pouzin who led popular thought about how to manage network resources is
considering establishing a root network specializing in multilingual TLDs
for use in France.
